I am starting to make a gratitude journal now so that (hopefully) I will have it ready to use before November.
I started with a box from small frozen pizzas and trimmed it so each cover was 5 1/2” square. The spine is approximately 2 1/2” wide. I wrapped each cover with a piece of patterned paper big enough to give me approximately 1/2” to wrap around each edge. I stopped short of the spine so I wouldn’t have too many layers of paper covering the fold and keeping it from moving freely. I then cut a third piece of the same paper wide enough to cover the spine and slightly overlap the cover pieces.
Next I used contrasting patterned paper on the inside covers, once again stopping short of the spine. Then I covered the spine with the same paper I used on the outside of the book. While the glue was still wet I used my bone folder to press the paper into the fold while opening and closing the cover several times.
For the last step I placed a 1/4” wide strip of Scor-Tape over each seam where the papers overlapped and coated the strips with Elizabeth Craft Designs silk microfine glitter.
In the next post I will share how I am making the pages for my journal.
